Last year we began to offer styled picnics with grazing boards on the farm and we had SO MUCH FUN creating these experiences for people in our community!
Last year we used lots of low tables and rugs with pillows to sit on and went for a very boho laid back vibe with our picnics. We knew we wanted to add something different this year but we weren’t sure what that would look like just yet. So we did what we normally do when we’re unsure of something-just let it sit on a shelf in our mind and wait for inspiration to strike.
If you know us you’ve probably heard us say that we strongly believe in cultivating over commercializing here at the farm. With this belief this often means that we don’t look primarily at what will make the most money but instead what is a good fit for the betterment of the farm. We’ve found that there’s seemingly a zillion things we could do but we try and focus instead on what we should do.
We were visiting one of one of our favorite stores recently, French Town Station in Paducah, when we came across a book that I absolutely fell in love with! I couldn’t stop flipping the pages and swooning over the photography and use of rustic vintage and antique items to create the most lovely picnics! When Jordan came over to see this book I just couldn’t put down we both remarked that each page and set up looked like a space at our farm and reminded me of the picnics I have made for the two of us before.
On our way home with “French Country Cottage: Inspired Gatherings” in hand we realized what would be the perfect addition to our picnics this summer at the farm- A French Country Inspired set up!
After a quick trip to the market for grazing board ingredients, an antique drafting desk, mis matched vintage wooden chairs, some of my favorite books and left over peonies from our Jane Austen picnic sprinkled with a few other vintage and antique pieces we had our first set up!
We want each of these picnics to be a unique experience where no two set ups are alike. We love the creativity and use of vintage items and surprising our guests with a location around the farm. Is there anything more delightful than a summer picnic? We don’t think so!
